Review: Tulisa – Live It Up

I still remember watching the ‘Ouch’ video for the first time in 2008 and thinking how far Tulisa could go as a solo act and to be fair to the girl, she has done well…

However, when I saw her as a solo act, I thought more Lauryn Hill (as over ambitious as that may have been) than second rate Cascada.

‘Live It Up’ is the second single Tulisa has released as a solo act and well… if you thought the lyrics of the first single were ironic to her situation then, there’s definitely no forgiveness to be given now.

It’s hard to believe that Rico Love had a hand in producing this after his contribution to some great tracks like ‘Energy’, ‘Sweet Dreams’ and ‘Motivation’. ‘Live It Up’ has the impression of a Bangladesh track but doesn’t pull off the tacky yet slightly addictive stomp that Bangladesh tracks have (See: ‘Sleazy’, ‘Cockiness’). Instead, it falls as flat as the beat that assumingly is supposed to get you dancing.

My main issue with Tulisa isn’t the sub-par songs that she releases; it’s the fact that she strives on being on The X Factor in an effort to launch herself. I’m dreading the amount of times both ‘Live It Up’ and ‘Young’ will be played in the background during the auditions as well as the video for ‘Live It Up’ while she dressed like she’s getting ready for a live show rehearsal.

I award ‘Live It Up’ 2 stars out of 5.
