Review: The Veronicas – Lolita

It’s been five years since the twin sensation released new music (that is unless you only heard it when it was released in the UK two years later) but now they have returned with new single ‘Lolita’ from the upcoming album ‘Life on Mars’…

‘Lolita’ is a direct progress from the ‘Hook Me Up’ album but takes a more modern approach to the pop/rock genre. It shows growth and versatility as well as their ability to adapt to the new changes in music.

In 2005, ‘The Secret Life Of…’ was perfect to listen to amongst the Kelly Clarkson and P!nk on your iPod. In 2007, their sound changed to adapt with the new wave of Dance in Pop. Now in 2012 with quoted influences such as Peaches and Ladytron, colour me excited.

‘Lolita’ opens with synths that can only be compared to the opening of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Lights’ before their signature sound kicks in however, this time with the added bonus of a dance break that will be a treat for the live show.

Usually the studio tricks can be a bit much, especially for a track from a band that strives on live instruments but it’s done so well that the twins that first released ‘4Ever’ seem like a completely different band.

I award ‘Lolita’ 3.5 stars out of 5
